Foundation Stage

The Foundation Stage Unit provides education for up to 40 children in the morning session and 40 children in the afternoon session between the ages of 3 and 5 years, and full time education for 60 children of school age.

We offer universal care for all 3 to 4 year olds of 15 hours per week (5 mornings).   We also offer up to 30 hours extended childcare in total per week (5 afternoons in addition to 5 morning universal), which is free to eligible families through Government funding, or can be paid for directly to the school.  Information on how to apply for this is given in the link Extended 30 hour Provision on the right.

Children join our Foundation Stage Unit at the beginning of the term after their 3rd birthday, and remain there until the end of the Reception Year.

This organisation has the great advantage of continuity and familiarity.  Children know and feel secure with the early year’s practitioners and we equally understand the needs of each of our children.

Children’s learning is carefully planned throughout the Unit, their achievements assessed and their progress monitored.  There is no anxiety or feeling of insecurity which may accompany the “moving on to the next stage”.  We aim for our children to benefit from a stable, yet challenging and exciting, environment!
